Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at The Nidd Wharfe Federation

At The Nidd Wharfe Federation, we are committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive community where every child and adult is welcomed, valued and supported. Across Admiral Long, Goldsborough and Sicklinghall, our vision of working together to be the best we can be guides the way we live, learn and grow alongside one another.

We want all members of our school family to feel a strong sense of belonging. We celebrate the rich diversity within our communities and believe that our differences strengthen us. We aim to foster a culture where everyone is respected, where every voice matters, and where all pupils have equitable opportunities to thrive.

To achieve this, we:

  • Know our communities and understand the different social identities that shape our pupils' and families’ experiences.
  • Listen to lived experience, analysing information and asking, “What is it like for you?” to understand the impact of barriers or bias.
  • Act early to address inequality, adapting our approaches and anticipating need so that every child can succeed.
  • Teach children to understand others, appreciate diversity and develop empathy, respect and curiosity.
  • Challenge prejudice and misconceptions, helping pupils respond with kindness, fairness and moral courage.

Our nurturing ethos ensures that pupils learn to value themselves and one another. Through supportive relationships, restorative practice and carefully designed curriculum content, children explore themes such as justice, equality, compassion and the impact of human actions—preparing them to play an active role in shaping a fairer and more hopeful world.
