The education of primary aged school children to encourage them to have an intrinsic desire for learning has been a lifelong passion for Valerie. Before her recent retirement, Valerie spent many years as a classroom teacher before progressing to be the Deputy Head teacher of a federation within the authority of Leeds. Valerie is well aware of the complexities of a Federation but also the great benefits of a strong union between two schools.
Valerie’s philosophy for children has remained the same throughout her career, despite all of the changes that she has witnessed. It is that all children should feel valued, they should be happy and they should be encouraged to have the self esteem and confidence that will enable them to achieve their goals.
Valerie has 3 children of her own. Two of her girls have followed in her footsteps and have pursued a career in teaching, the third decided this wasn’t for her and is now a lawyer!
Valerie’s aim as a governor is to work with parents, teachers, the Head and other Governors to provide the children with the best chance of success and happiness.
