Our sporting calendar for the first few months of this year has already been a very busy one! We started off the year with a Change-4-Life event which aims to give pupils a fun introduction to target skills and gives them confidence and competence to hopefully take part in lifelong physical activity. Our small groups of year 3 and 4's had a brilliant and fun afternoon with a lot of laughs!
Our second event in January was the Infant Agility Skills Festival aimed at year 1 and 2's. This is a super event for the very young ones in our school, who loved going around different stations trying out new skills, such as curling, javelin, hitting a target with a bean bag, balancing and ball skills. The photographs show what an exciting afternoon of learning new skills we all had.
Sportshall Athletics in February is always a very popular and competitive event, made even more so that it was a Small Schools Event (and at the moment we are leading the other small schools!) Our year 3 and 4's took part in a range of both running and obstacle races and events including the high jump, long jump and javelin. They were thrilled to come runners up at the end of the afternoon.
Gymnastics, at the end of January is a new event for Goldsborough and our Year 5 and 6 girls had to learn two floor routines. This event is also open to boys, however as yet, we don't have any budding male gymnasts! The routines consist of single bounce skips, press ups, right and box splits, performing both the bridge and a broad jump to name but a few and finally vaulting. Our girls looked very professional and learnt their routines perfectly!
Our tag rugby teams at Goldsborough have always done very well and in February this was no exception! We took two teams along to Knaresborough rugby club on a rather dull Tuesday afternoon. A very competitive, exciting and muddy afternoon of rugby was had and one of our teams again went through to the Partnership finals to be held at Harrogate Rugby Club later on in March. Tag rugby is enjoyed by both boys and girls at Goldsborough.
Our most recent event has been a Quicksticks Hockey competition at St Aidan's school in Harrogate. The game is only 4 a-side and is very fast paced. The rules are a little different to normal hockey in that there are smaller team sizes and no goal keeper. Again our boys and girls excelled and we were winners of our pool, going through to the Area finals next week.
Our sporting events at Goldsborough are diverse and always very popular both with those who are very sporty, but also those who just want to have a go! They are generally all held after school so as not to interfere with school work.
