Mo O'Hara - author visit

We all enjoyed a terrific visit from Mo O'Hara, author of the 'My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish' series on Friday. Mo lit up Class 2, 3 and 4 with an interactive session where she covered ideas such as how an author is 'a creator of ideas' (= 'someone who makes stuff up'); the dos and don'ts of fish resucitation and how to use your 'author brain'. Most importantly, she urged us to always ask the big question when writing: 'What if...?'

Using the theme of her most famous creation as inspiration, pupils then had to think 'What if... you had a pet... and the pet had a superpower?' Here are some of our best ones:

- mind-reading hippo

- future-predicting owl

- invisible axolotl

- metal-munching dog

- anti-gravity shark

- the capybara that can go through walls

She then received some willing volunteers to portray the main characters in 'My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish', including some terrific acting from Jessica and Noah, admirable evilness from Matilda and Jackson, and some harmless cross-dressing from Mr Cooper.

Lots of pupils got their books signed and felt very inspired to create characters and stories of their own.
