North Yorkshire County Caterers are the school meals provider and offer exciting new menus each term which are cooked fresh from raw ingredients and allow parents and pupils to pre-order from home, on the move or in the classroom. PRE-ORDERING NYCC want you to know everything there is to know about our menus. That is why they use ParentPay for online pre-ordering. Here you can see what’s on offer across the whole term, including any special theme days which run throughout the academic year! You can order flexibly, either day by day or up to a full term in advance.

Parents/carers can choose for their child to have a cooked school lunch or bring a packed lunch. Our lunches are cooked to order at a local primary school and transported to us each day in heated containers ready to be served immediately at 12:00. Pupils up to the age of 7 (Reception, Y1 and Y2) are entitled to a free school meal every day as part of a new government funded initiative. The current cost of school dinners for children in Y3-6 is £2.820 per day - £14.10 per week.

Free School Meals

Family economic circumstances can vary greatly. In certain circumstances, a family whose child is in Y3-6 can apply for their child to receive a daily school meal without charge. The common misconception is that there is a stigma attached to such circumstances and that a child may be singled out. A child who receives free school meals is not identified or treated differently to other pupils who choose school meals. Free school meals are available to children whose parent/carer is in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:

  • Income support
  • Income based job seeker’s allowance
  • Income related employment and support allowance
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Child tax credit with an income of less than £16,040 and not receiving working tax  credit
  • Guarantee element of state pension credit
